## What was announced?

Anthropic's News announced Claude for Teachers, a program that gives verified K-12 (kindergarten through 12th grade) educators in the US free access to premium Claude capabilities.

## Why it matters

Teaching involves so much more than the classroom itself — building materials, grading, communicating with parents, and all sorts of invisible work. That workload eats into the time teachers should be spending with each individual student. Claude for Teachers is Anthropic's attempt to put a free AI teammate that actually understands classroom content directly into teachers' hands.

## What changes

Here's roughly what Claude for Teachers can do:

- Lesson planning: build lesson plans from high-quality materials
- Personalization: adapt materials for students at different levels of understanding
- Data analysis: analyze class data to inform instructional planning
- Automation: hand off a recurring task once, and it'll run automatically — like every school day at 4pm

It includes Claude Code and Cowork, so tasks you hand off keep running continuously. The goal is to free teachers from tedious administrative work so they can spend more time actually teaching.

## Dive Deep

This is limited to verified K-12 educators in the US, and it's completely free. Sign up by June 30, 2027, and you get a year of access from there.

It also integrates with 9 tools already used in classrooms: ASSISTments, Brisk Teaching, Canva Education, Coteach, Diffit, Eedi, MagicSchool, Snorkl, and TeachFX. Claude essentially plugs into the ecosystem of tools teachers already rely on.

On the data side, Claude for Teachers data isn't used for model training, and it's protected under FERPA-compliant K-12 data processing agreements. Anthropic also says dedicated offers for schools and districts are coming soon, so this looks set to expand further.
