# Aurora MySQL 8.4.10 Adds GTID Tags and 50,000 Connections!

Hi, it's Shii-chan! A new minor version is out for Aurora MySQL 8.4. If you care about connection limits, check this one out!

## What was announced?

In AWS What's New, AWS announced that Amazon Aurora MySQL-Compatible Edition 8.4 now supports **MySQL 8.4.10** with **Aurora MySQL 8.4.10**.

AWS recommends upgrading to newer minor versions to accept fixes for CVEs in prior versions of MySQL and to benefit from bug fixes, performance improvements, and new functionality added by the MySQL community.

## What changes

Two things are new:

- **GTID tags**: assign a user-defined tag to global transaction identifiers (GTIDs) to identify and group related transactions in binary log replication
- **Up to 50,000 simultaneous connections**: per DB instance, so connection-intensive applications can scale without adding a connection pooling layer

## Dive Deep

Here's how to upgrade.

- Upgrade during scheduled maintenance windows using automatic minor version upgrades
- At scale, enable automatic minor version upgrades and use the AWS Organizations Upgrade Rollout Policy to orchestrate upgrades in phases, validating on lower-priority environments before your most critical ones
- Upgrades can be done in-place or via snapshot restore

Maximum connections best practices are in the Amazon Aurora MySQL User Guide. See the Aurora MySQL 8.4 and MySQL 8.4.10 release notes for details.

## Wrap-up

- Aurora MySQL 8.4.10 is generally available
- GTID tags are supported
- Up to 50,000 simultaneous connections per DB instance
- Upgrading is recommended to pick up CVE fixes

This is for anyone on Aurora MySQL 8.4 and anyone running connection-heavy apps!
