# Amazon Corretto's Quarterly Update Arrives, and Docker Images Now Default to Amazon Linux 2023

Hi, I'm Shii-chan! Today I have a quiet but important update for anyone running Java in production.

## What was announced?

AWS shared in its What's New feed that Amazon Corretto has received its quarterly security and critical-fix update. Amazon Corretto is AWS's no-cost, production-ready distribution of OpenJDK.

Here are the builds released this time:

- Corretto 26.0.2
- Corretto 25.0.4
- Corretto 21.0.12 (LTS)
- Corretto 17.0.20 (LTS)
- Corretto 11.0.32 (LTS)
- Corretto 8u502 (LTS)

Both Long-Term Support (LTS) and Feature Release (FR) versions were updated together.

## What changes

Beyond the version bump, this release also changes some of the distribution's underlying details.

- **New default base for Docker images**: Starting with this release, the default Amazon Corretto Docker images are based on Amazon Linux 2023. The previous default, Amazon Linux 2 based images, will continue to be offered as a non-default option for customers who can't migrate yet
- **JavaFX no longer bundled with Corretto 8**: Starting with this release, JavaFX binaries are no longer included with Corretto 8. Migration guidance is available in the Corretto 8 GitHub repository, so if you rely on JavaFX with Corretto 8, it's worth checking that out

Getting the updates works the same way as before: you can download them from the Corretto home page, or, on Linux, configure an Apt, Yum, or Apk repository to pull updates through your package manager.
