# C8id and M8id Instances Now Available in Sydney and Mumbai!

## What was announced?

According to AWS What's New, **C8id** (compute-optimized) and **M8id** (balanced) instances, both with up to 22.8 TB of local NVMe SSD block storage, are now available in new regions:

- C8id: Asia Pacific (Sydney), Canada (Central)
- M8id: Asia Pacific (Mumbai), Canada (Central)

Both families are built for workloads that can take advantage of fast local storage.

## The story so far

C8id and M8id were already available in other regions, just not the ones above. In regions where the previous-generation **C6id** and **M6id** had been the go-to choice, plenty of users were waiting for the newer generation to arrive.

## What changes

- C8id is a good fit for compute-intensive workloads like video encoding, image manipulation, and other media processing
- M8id suits workloads that need a balance of compute and memory, such as data logging, media processing, and medium-sized data stores

You can now pick compute-heavy or balanced instances depending on your workload, while still getting the latest generation's local storage performance.

Compared to the previous-generation C6id and M6id:

- vCPUs, memory, and local storage: 3x across the board
- Compute performance: up to 43% higher
- Memory bandwidth: up to 3.3x
- I/O-intensive database workloads: up to 46% higher
- Real-time data analytics query speed: up to 30% faster

The 24xlarge, 48xlarge, metal-24xl, and metal-48xl sizes support Elastic Fabric Adapter (EFA) networking. EC2 instance bandwidth weighting configuration also lets you adjust network and Amazon EBS bandwidth allocation in 25% increments. You can purchase via Savings Plans, On-Demand, or Spot.
