# EC2 R8id Instances Now Available in 6 More AWS Regions!

Hi, it's me, Shiichan! I found a new update from AWS What's New about memory-optimized instances, so let me share it with you.

## What was announced?

According to AWS What's New, Amazon EC2 **R8id** instances are now available in six more regions:

- Asia Pacific (Mumbai)
- Asia Pacific (Malaysia)
- Asia Pacific (Sydney)
- Canada (Central)
- Europe (Ireland)
- Europe (Stockholm)

R8id is a memory-optimized family with local NVMe SSD storage, and users in these regions finally get it as an option.

## The story so far

R8id was already available in other regions, just not in these six. The previous generation, **R6id**, was available there, so teams running memory- and storage-heavy workloads had to mix generations depending on the region.

## What changes

Teams building infrastructure in these regions can now move straight to the latest R8id generation. If you're running in-memory databases, real-time big data analytics, or large in-memory caches, you can now use a consistent instance generation no matter which of these regions you're in.

## Dive Deep

Here's how R8id compares to R6id:

- Local storage: up to 22.8 TB of NVMe SSD (3x more than R6id)
- Memory bandwidth: up to 3.3x higher
- Overall performance: up to 43% better than R6id

The 24xlarge, 48xlarge, metal-24xl, and metal-48xl sizes also support Elastic Fabric Adapter (EFA) networking. On top of that, EC2 instance bandwidth weighting configuration now lets you adjust network and Amazon EBS bandwidth allocation in 25% increments, so you can shift bandwidth toward whichever resource your workload needs most.

You can purchase these instances via Savings Plans, On-Demand, or Spot.
