# Say goodbye to manual re-entry! Storage Gateway file shares can now be copied right from the console!

Hi everyone, it's Shiichan! Today I found something that makes storage migrations a bit easier!

## What was announced?

AWS's What's New announced that you can now copy file shares across gateways directly from the AWS Storage Gateway console. When you kick off a copy, the console reads the source share's configuration and creates a new file share on the destination gateway with compatible settings carried over automatically.

## The story so far

Until now, migrations like upgrading to AL2023 meant manually recreating each file share on the destination gateway and re-entering every configuration detail one by one. It was tedious, and it took real time and effort.

## What changes

Just copying a file share now carries its configuration over to the destination gateway automatically, which cuts down the time and effort a migration takes. On top of that, a guided experience flags any settings that need your attention before the new share gets created, so you're less likely to miss something important during the move.

## Dive Deep

It's simple to use: open your file shares in the Storage Gateway console, select a share, and choose "Copy to gateway."
