# Web Search on AWS Bedrock now supports domain filtering and user location!

Hi everyone, it's Shii-chan! Here is an update that gives you much more control over the search results that ground a model's answers.

## What was announced?

In AWS What's New, AWS announced two new controls for Web Search on AWS Bedrock. Both are configured directly on the `web_search` tool in your existing OpenAI Responses API request.

- Domain filtering: limit results to domains you choose, or exclude some
- User location: optionally pass location parameters so results fit a geography

## Why it matters

A model's answer is built on its search results. Choosing which sites those come from helps when you want answers grounded only in trusted sources, or when certain domains must stay out.

## What changes

- If you want answers based on trusted sites only, you can set allowed domains
- If there are sources you don't want, you can block them
- For location-dependent questions such as regional availability or local services, you can pass a location

## Dive Deep

Details from the original announcement:

- Domain filtering uses the `filters` parameter
- `allowed_domains` takes up to 100 domains to limit results to trusted sources
- `blocked_domains` takes up to 100 domains to exclude sources
- Location is optional

Both are available in all AWS Regions where Web Search is supported:

- US East (N. Virginia)
- US East (Ohio)
- US West (Oregon)
- AWS GovCloud (US-West)

To get started, see the Web Search section in the AWS Bedrock User Guide. For pricing, see the AWS Bedrock pricing page.

## Wrap-up

- Web Search on Bedrock gains domain filtering and user location
- `filters` accepts up to 100 allowed or 100 blocked domains
- Configure it on the `web_search` tool in the OpenAI Responses API request
- Available in the four Regions where Web Search is supported

If you build search-grounded apps on Bedrock and want to curate sources, this one is for you!
