# Graviton5-powered C9g and C9gd instances land in Tokyo!

## What was announced?

According to AWS What's New, Amazon EC2 C9g and C9gd instances powered by AWS Graviton5 processors are now available in the Asia Pacific (Tokyo) region.

Graviton5 is AWS's fifth generation of custom-designed CPUs, and this time C9g and C9gd are built to push performance for compute-intensive workloads.

## Why it matters

For teams operating in the Tokyo region, having quick access to the latest instance generation locally is a big deal. Being able to benefit from a new CPU generation right in the region closest to Japan, instead of waiting for it to reach overseas regions first, is great news.

## What changes

Compared to the previous Graviton4-based C8g and C8gd instances, C9g and C9gd deliver:

- Compute performance: up to 25% better
- Databases: up to 30% faster
- Web applications: up to 35% faster
- Machine learning: up to 35% faster

C9g is suited for compute-heavy workloads such as HPC, batch processing, gaming, video encoding, scientific modeling, distributed analytics, CPU-based machine learning inference, real-time analytics, and ad serving. C9gd adds local NVMe-based SSD block storage on top, for workloads that also need fast storage for scratch space and caches.

## Dive Deep

These instances are also built on the sixth-generation AWS Nitro System, and they're among the first to feature the Nitro Isolation Engine, which uses formal verification to mathematically guarantee workload isolation.

You can purchase them through Savings Plans, On-Demand, Spot instances, Dedicated instances, or Dedicated hosts in the Tokyo region.
