# Claude Code v2.1.207: Auto mode needs no opt-in anymore, and Opus 4.8 is now the default!

Hey everyone, it's me, Shiichan! There's a new Claude Code release out, so let's take a look at what's inside.

## What was announced?

According to the Claude Code Release notes, **v2.1.207** of Claude Code just shipped. The headline items are a change to how Auto mode works, plus a large batch of bug fixes.

## The story so far

Until now, using Auto mode on Bedrock, Vertex AI, and Foundry required opting in via the `CLAUDE_CODE_ENABLE_AUTO_MODE` environment variable. The default model on those three platforms had also been something other than the latest Opus model for a while.

## What changes

Starting with this version, Auto mode is **available by default, with no opt-in needed**, on Bedrock, Vertex AI, and Foundry. If you don't want it, you can turn it off with `disableAutoMode` in settings. Alongside that, the default model on Bedrock, Vertex, and Claude Platform on AWS has changed to **Claude Opus 4.8**. If you're on any of these platforms, just updating gets you these changes automatically.

## Dive Deep

This release also carries a hefty list of bug fixes. Here are the ones that caught my eye:

- Fixed the terminal freezing and keystrokes lagging while streaming responses containing very long lists, tables, paragraphs, or code blocks
- Fixed remote managed settings from non-interactive runs (`claude -p`, the SDK) being permanently recorded as consented without ever showing the security consent dialog
- Fixed spurious prompt-injection warnings triggered by benign system-generated conversation updates
- Fixed the auto-updater overwriting a custom launcher script or symlink at `~/.local/bin/claude` on every release (`/doctor` now reports an externally managed launcher)
- Fixed compound commands with `cd` prompting for permission when the only output redirect was to `/dev/null`
- Fixed `extensions.worktreeConfig` being left in the repo's `.git/config` (breaking go-git tools like `tea`) after the last `worktree.sparsePaths` worktree was removed
- Fixed malformed bracket patterns in rules globs, skill paths, `.ignore`, and `.worktreeinclude` breaking file reads and worktree creation
- Fixed a crash loop in agent teams caused by a malformed teammate mailbox message
- Changed plugin hooks/monitors/MCP headersHelper to reject `${user_config.*}` in shell-form commands (a shell-injection fix)
- Changed `/usage-credits` to require typed confirmation for amounts over $1,000

On top of these, there are several smaller fixes too, covering Remote Control task status updates, background agent progress display, and a hang on Windows during AWS credential resolution.

## Wrap-up

- Auto mode no longer needs an opt-in on Bedrock, Vertex AI, and Foundry (can still be disabled via `disableAutoMode`)
- The default model on Bedrock, Vertex, and Claude Platform on AWS is now Claude Opus 4.8
- A large batch of bug fixes ships alongside, including a terminal freeze fix, a security consent dialog fix, and a shell-injection hardening fix

If you run Claude Code on Bedrock or Vertex AI, this is a release where updating gets you an immediately noticeable difference!
