# Claude Code v2.1.318: Sign-in Expiry Dates and Stronger Config File Protection

Hi everyone, it's Shii-chan! Claude Code v2.1.318 is out. There are lots of fixes, so let me pick out the highlights.

## What was announced?

The Claude Code Release page on GitHub published v2.1.318, with additions, fixes, improvements, changes and removals.

## The story so far

Before this, it was hard to tell when a stored claude.ai sign-in would end. On shared network home directories, config files could sometimes be deleted or emptied.

## What changes

You can now see when your sign-in ends, and config files are better protected. This is especially nice for unattended runs!

## Dive Deep

Main additions:

- assume_role on mantle upstreams of the Claude apps gateway (for a role in another AWS account and per-developer AWS cost attribution)
- An effort option on a mod's $.model.fork, so a quick side job can run at low regardless of session effort
- The sign-in end date in claude auth status and claude -p JSON results (loginExpiresAt, credential_expires_at)
- A one-line stderr warning in claude -p text output, starting 10 days before the sign-in ends
- A No repository option for cloud sessions

Main fixes:

- --continue sometimes losing the earlier conversation after retries ran out (a regression in 2.1.314)
- macOS sessions with many running Bash commands stalling while memory grew
- Permission prompts being answered by keys typed just after sending a message
- Every connection failing when NODE_EXTRA_CA_CERTS is empty or invalid (readable certificates are now used, with a warning)
- Non-interactive launches replacing an invalid ~/.claude.json with defaults (they now fail and explain how to restore it)

Behavior changes:

- Claude Code no longer installs or updates the IDE extension when started in an IDE terminal. Use /ide from an outside terminal or your editor's extensions view
- Background subagents move a shell command to the background after 3 minutes, so the prompt cache doesn't expire
- deniedMcpServers URL entries also block Anthropic-provided servers and connectors whose upstream URL matches
- Self-hosted runner log formats changed, so scripts matching retryable=true: need updating

## Wrap-up

- Sign-in expiry is visible, with a warning before it ends
- The gateway gets assume_role for mantle upstreams
- Config files are better protected against corruption and loss
- Some behavior changes, such as no more automatic IDE extension installs

If you run Claude Code unattended or in shared environments, check these changes!
