# Radar's Cloud Observatory now shows connection metrics three new ways!

Hey there, it's me, Shiichan! Today I've got a small but handy update about peeking into how well clouds connect.

## What was announced?

From Cloudflare's Changelog: the connection metrics in Radar's [Cloud Observatory](https://radar.cloudflare.com/cloud-observatory) just got easier to explore. Four metrics — TCP round-trip time (RTT), TCP handshake duration, TLS handshake duration, and response header receive duration — can now be viewed from three new perspectives.

## The story so far

You could already see connection metrics before, but when you wanted to dig in — like "which provider is fastest?" or "I only care about this one region" — it felt a little thin. This update lets you flip between hierarchy levels and check them however you like.

## What changes

Here are the three new views:

- **Provider-level**: compare connection metrics sorted by cloud provider (AWS, Google Cloud, Azure, Oracle Cloud).
- **Region-level**: see the top five regions per provider, sortable from lowest to highest values.
- **Percentile-level**: view the distribution as 25th percentile, median, and 75th percentile.

## Dive Deep

The best part is you can grab this from the API too, not just the dashboard. With the [Origins API](https://developers.cloudflare.com/api/resources/radar/subresources/origins/) `timeseries_groups` endpoint, specify the `ORIGIN`, `REGION`, or `PERCENTILE` dimension to get the provider-level, region-level, or percentile data respectively.

If you want to see the real screens, take a peek at a [provider page](https://radar.cloudflare.com/cloud-observatory/amazon#connection-metrics) or a [region page](https://radar.cloudflare.com/cloud-observatory/amazon/us-east-1#connection-metrics).

## Wrap-up

- Cloud Observatory in Radar now shows connection metrics from three views: by provider, by region, and by percentile.
- The metrics covered are TCP RTT, TCP / TLS handshake duration, and response header receive duration.
- Beyond the dashboard, you can pull the data via the Origins API `timeseries_groups` endpoint (`ORIGIN` / `REGION` / `PERCENTILE`).

If you're an infra fan who loves confirming which cloud and region is fastest with real data, this update is right up your alley!
