# Register a Cloudflare One Virtual Appliance yourself, right from the dashboard!

Hey there, it's me, Shii-chan! Today I've got a small but handy networking update for you.

## What was announced?

According to Cloudflare's Changelog, you can now register a [Cloudflare One Virtual Appliance](https://developers.cloudflare.com/cloudflare-wan/configuration/appliance/) and generate its license key (authentication key) right from the dashboard, without contacting your account team. You can get started on the spot.

## The story so far

Until now there wasn't a dashboard flow for registering a virtual appliance. There was an [API and Terraform self-serve workflow](https://developers.cloudflare.com/cloudflare-wan/configuration/appliance/configure-virtual-appliance/#register-a-virtual-appliance-and-generate-a-license-key), but if you wanted to do everything from the GUI, it took an extra step. This update complements that API/Terraform flow so you can do it in the dashboard too.

## What changes

You can register a virtual appliance and generate its key on your own schedule, without waiting on your account team. Being able to move the moment you want to is really nice. One heads-up: hardware appliances still go through the existing account-team fulfillment workflow.

## Dive Deep

Here's how it works:

- On the Connectors page, select Add an appliance and choose Virtual appliance to register and generate the authentication key.
- To rotate the key, open the virtual appliance connector's menu and select Regenerate authentication key.
- Regenerating immediately and irrevocably revokes the previous key, so be careful.
- The authentication key is shown only once, so copy and store it securely right away.

## Wrap-up
