A new enterprise security offering is born: Frontier Safeguards!

What was announced?

According to Anthropic News, Anthropic has co-developed "Enterprise Frontier Safeguards" (EFS) together with more than 100 companies, mainly in financial services, healthcare, and legal, and plans to roll it out in phases starting later this fall. Eligible customers will also get zero data retention (ZDR) on Fable 5 / 5.1.

EFS combines zero-data-retention privacy with state-of-the-art abuse detection. The key detail is that data is stored in the customer's own cloud infrastructure, not with Anthropic.

Why it matters

In heavily regulated industries like finance, healthcare, and law, companies need tight control over who can see customer data, confidential information, and sensitive documents, which has made it hard for some to adopt Anthropic's standard data retention policy. At the same time, abuse — from fraud to sophisticated cyberattacks — is often invisible in a single interaction and only shows up as a pattern across multiple sessions or accounts. This announcement is about trying to satisfy both of those needs at once: strong privacy, and still being able to catch abuse that's spread across sessions.

What changes

EFS is built around three main pieces:

• Customer-managed data storage: data is stored in the customer's own account — Amazon S3, Azure Blob Storage, or Google Cloud Storage — protected with the customer's own encryption keys
• Automated monitoring: patterns are analyzed across multiple sessions and accounts to detect signs of credential theft or cyberattacks, without any human review by Anthropic staff
• Customer-centered review: alerts go directly to the customer, whose own team decides how to review and respond

This is available across the major platforms where Anthropic's models run, including Claude Code, Claude Enterprise, Amazon Bedrock, Google Agent Platform, and Microsoft Foundry.
