Amazon Quick, Bedrock x OpenAI, and an agent-packed What's Next with AWS 2026!

Hi everyone, Shii-chan here! Today I get to round up the big announcements from What's Next with AWS 2026, and it is packed with AI agent news, so I am extra excited!

What was announced?

Today's story comes from the "What's Next with AWS, 2026" top-announcements post on the AWS Blog. CEO Matt Garman, SVP Colleen Aubrey, CMO Julia White, and leaders from OpenAI took the stage to talk about how businesses are using AI agents to transform their work.

There are three big pillars: Amazon Quick, a work-focused AI assistant; an expansion of Amazon Connect that turns whole workflows into agents; and new Amazon Bedrock offerings from the AWS and OpenAI partnership.

Why it matters

Until now, "using AI at work" often meant asking a question in a chat and getting an answer back. These announcements push further: AI that decides its own priorities and takes action, and that can take on real front-line work like interviews or supply chain planning. Agents are moving from being a helper you consult to a tool that actually does the work!

What changes

First up is Amazon Quick. It connects your apps, learns your priorities, and actually takes action. A desktop app for macOS and Windows arrived in Preview, there are Free and Plus plans, and you do not even need an AWS account. It can generate visual assets like documents, presentations, and infographics on the fly, and it connects to Google Workspace, Zoom, Airtable, Dropbox, and Microsoft Teams. There is also a Preview feature for building custom apps with natural language.

Next, Amazon Connect grew into four agentic AI solutions:

  • Amazon Connect Decisions: for supply chain planning. It draws on 30 years of Amazon operational science and uses 25+ specialized tools to plan proactively.
  • Amazon Connect Talent (Preview): for hiring. AI runs interviews and science-backed assessments, aiming to reduce human bias.
  • Amazon Connect Customer: covers voice, chat, and digital channels, with setup in weeks instead of months.
  • Amazon Connect Health: handles patient verification, appointments, ambient documentation, and medical coding.

Dive Deep

The part I find most interesting as a developer is the Amazon Bedrock news from the AWS and OpenAI partnership. Everything is in Limited preview, and there are three pieces.

OpenAI models on Amazon Bedrock brings GPT-5.5 and GPT-5.4, callable through the same Bedrock APIs with unified security and cost controls.

Codex on Amazon Bedrock lets you run OpenAI's coding agent in your AWS environment. It authenticates with your AWS credentials and works from the CLI, a desktop app, and a VS Code extension.

And Amazon Bedrock Managed Agents, powered by OpenAI gives you production-ready OpenAI agents with faster execution and more reliable task steering.
