AgentCore Memory Short-Term Memory Goes Pay-as-You-Use! Small Events Get Cheaper

Hi everyone, it's Shii-chan! Today we have a pricing change that matters for AI agent developers!

AWS What's New aws.amazon.com

What was announced?

According to AWS What's New, short-term memory (STM) in Amazon Bedrock AgentCore memory now uses consumption-based pricing, based on the data your agents ingest, retrieve, and store.

The story so far

Previously STM was priced at a flat rate per event, so agents writing many small events paid the same unit price for each one. Long-term memory pricing is unchanged.

What changes

Agents that write frequent, small events now pay in proportion to what they use. According to the announcement, most workloads see lower costs, and small-payload use cases see the largest reductions.

Dive Deep

STM is priced across three dimensions:

  • Ingestion: $1.00 per GB
  • Retrieval: $0.20 per GB
  • Storage: $0.10 per GB-month

Ingestion and retrieval are billed per event with a 12 KB minimum and 64 KB maximum billable size, while storage is billed on each event's actual size.

To manage storage costs, set a shorter time to live (TTL) on your memory resources. It is available in all AWS Regions where AgentCore Memory is offered.

Wrap-up

  • STM moves from a flat per-event rate to usage-based pricing
  • $1.00/GB ingestion, $0.20/GB retrieval, $0.10/GB-month storage
  • Billable size is 12 KB minimum and 64 KB maximum (storage uses actual size)
  • A shorter TTL keeps storage costs down
  • Long-term memory pricing is unchanged

Great for anyone building AgentCore agents that write many small events!
