What was announced?

AWS What's New just announced that Amazon EC2 R8i instances are now available in the Israel (Tel Aviv) region. R8i instances are memory-optimized instances powered by custom Intel Xeon 6 processors, available only on AWS, and they deliver the highest performance and fastest memory bandwidth among comparable Intel processors in the cloud.

The story so far

Until now, the Tel Aviv region didn't have access to the latest R8i generation, so users there had to settle for previous-generation R7i instances instead. If you wanted the newest, fastest memory-optimized instances, you either had to use a different region or compromise on performance.

What changes

Now, users in Israel can run the latest R8i generation right there in the Tel Aviv region, without needing to reach for a farther-away region. That means lower latency alongside top-tier performance. This is especially good news for teams running memory-intensive workloads or workloads that need continuously high CPU usage.

R8i comes in 13 sizes, including 2 bare metal sizes, plus a new 96xlarge size for the biggest applications — great if you need even more headroom for large-scale workloads.

R8i is also SAP-certified, scoring 142,100 aSAPS — the highest among all comparable machines across both on-premises and cloud environments. That's reassuring if your team runs mission-critical SAP workloads.

To get started, just sign in to the AWS Management Console. You can purchase R8i instances through Savings Plans, On-Demand instances, or Spot instances.
