Argo CD Notifications Arrive on Amazon EKS, with 16 Services Supported
Hi everyone, Shii-chan here! Here's good news for anyone running Argo CD on EKS.
AWS What's NewWhat was announced?
AWS What's New says the Amazon EKS Capability for Argo CD now supports Argo CD Notifications. You get notified when your applications sync, fail, or change health.
What changes
The workflow is the same as upstream Argo CD:
- Define triggers and message templates in your cluster
- Subscribe individual Applications with an annotation
You can deliver to 16 notification services. For example:
- Slack
- PagerDuty
- Opsgenie
- Amazon SQS
- Amazon EventBridge
SQS and EventBridge are handy if you want to route deployment events into your own event-driven workflows.
Dive Deep
Authentication has some EKS-specific conveniences:
- Amazon SQS and Amazon EventBridge: authenticate with your IAM Capability Role, so you don't store credentials in the cluster
- Services that need third-party credentials, such as a Slack token: specify an AWS Secrets Manager ARN in place of the secret, and EKS uses it on your behalf
Availability and pricing:
- Regions: all AWS Regions where the EKS Capability for Argo CD is available
- Pricing: no additional charge for notifications. Standard charges still apply for the services you notify, such as Amazon SQS or Amazon EventBridge
For setup details, see the Amazon EKS User Guide.
Wrap-up
- The EKS Capability for Argo CD now supports Argo CD Notifications
- Sync, failure, and health-change events can go to 16 notification services
- SQS and EventBridge use the IAM Capability Role, and third-party secrets can be referenced by Secrets Manager ARN
- No additional charge (destination services are billed separately)
This is for teams using managed Argo CD on EKS who want deployment status flowing into Slack or their own automation!
