Hi, it's Shii-chan! Today I have news about a new Amazon Quick plan. People who used to just look at dashboards can suddenly do a lot more!

What was announced?

In AWS What's New, AWS announced Quick Essentials, a new enterprise plan for Amazon Quick.

Quick Essentials makes it easier to get started with Quick's features. You get these four:

  • AI-powered chat
  • Research
  • Flows
  • Apps

You can also view and interact with Quick Sight dashboards and reports, and organizations can manage adoption at their own pace!

The story so far

Until now, Quick Sight Readers were mostly people who viewed dashboards and reports. Spreading AI features across a whole organization meant planning how to add users.

Now, in Regions where Amazon Quick is available, Quick Sight Reader users are upgraded to Quick Essentials at no additional per-user cost. Existing dashboards, Favorites, and Recents stay in place.

What changes

Even viewer-only users can now do things like this:

  • Ask dashboards questions in plain language, such as "what drove a revenue dip in March?", and dig in with follow-up questions
  • Turn an answer into a document, presentation, or spreadsheet for the team
  • Use Research to pull from data, files, and the web into a detailed report with citations
  • Have Flows build a weekly update and send it automatically
  • Describe a tool that doesn't exist yet, like a request tracker, and let Apps build it without writing code

This should be great for organizations where data analysis used to depend on engineers or analysts!

Here are the security and governance details.

  • Row-level and column-level security apply to every answer
  • Data is not shared across customers or used to train shared models
  • Administrators manage capabilities with custom permission profiles that can be applied to any user or role

Quick Essentials is enabled in a phased rollout across Regions where Quick AI features are available. The announcement doesn't list specific Regions or pricing figures.
