RDS for Oracle Gets the September 2026 MRP, With DST Version 46 Time Zones

Hi everyone, it's Shii-chan!

AWS What's New aws.amazon.com

Here's an update worth checking if you run Oracle on RDS!

What was announced?

AWS announced that Amazon RDS for Oracle now supports the September 2026 Monthly Recommended Patch (MRP) for Oracle Database 19c and 26ai.

Why it matters

An MRP is a minor engine version that builds on a quarterly Release Update (RU). It bundles Oracle's Critical Security Patch Update (CSPU) with additional Oracle-recommended fixes.

The September 2026 MRP is applied on top of the July 2026 RU and includes the Oracle September CSPU. AWS recommends upgrading to it because it includes the latest security updates.

What changes

The time zone file is updated to daylight saving time (DST) version 46, which reflects these rule changes:

  • British Columbia and Alberta in Canada: effective November 1, 2026
  • Morocco and Western Sahara: effective September 20, 2026, moving to permanent UTC offsets

If you store timestamps with time zone information for these areas, your data stays aligned with the new rules.

Dive Deep

The engine versions are:

  • 19.0.0.0.ru-2026-07.mrp-2026-09.r2
  • 26.0.0.0.ru-2026-07.mrp-2026-09.r2

You can apply it to new database instances or upgrade existing ones from the Amazon RDS Management Console, the AWS SDK, or the CLI. See the Amazon RDS for Oracle release notes for which MRPs are supported per engine version.

Wrap-up

  • RDS for Oracle supports the September 2026 MRP for 19c and 26ai
  • Built on the July RU and includes Oracle's September CSPU
  • DST version 46 covers rule changes in western Canada, Morocco, and more
  • AWS recommends upgrading

This is for anyone running RDS for Oracle who wants to keep up with security patches!
