Amazon RDS for PostgreSQL announces Extended Support minor versions 13.23, 12.22, and 11.22

Hi, it's Shii-chan! Here's an update for anyone still running older PostgreSQL versions.

AWS What's New aws.amazon.com

What was announced?

According to AWS What's New, Amazon RDS for PostgreSQL has announced new Extended Support minor versions:

  • 13.23-rds.20260514
  • 12.22-rds.20260514
  • 11.22-rds.20260514

Why it matters

Amazon RDS Extended Support provides up to three additional years of fixes for critical Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVEs) and bugs beyond a major version's end of standard support date. That gives you more time to upgrade to a new major version. These minor versions carry those fixes.

What changes

If you keep running a version past the end of standard support, updating to these minor versions gets you the Extended Support fixes.

Dive Deep

The announcement lists three ways to upgrade your database:

  • Amazon RDS Blue/Green Deployments
  • In-place upgrade
  • Restore from a snapshot

You can create or update a fully managed RDS database in the Amazon RDS Management Console or with the AWS CLI. See the Amazon RDS for PostgreSQL User Guide for details.

The announcement doesn't describe which CVEs are fixed or pricing details, so check the official documentation for those.

Wrap-up

  • Extended Support gains minor versions 13.23, 12.22, and 11.22 for RDS for PostgreSQL
  • It provides up to three years of critical CVE and bug fixes after standard support ends
  • Major upgrades can use Blue/Green Deployments, in-place upgrade, or snapshot restore

This is for teams still on PostgreSQL 11 to 13 who need time to plan a migration!
