Fix one thing, resolve many: remediation plans arrive in AWS Security Hub

Hi everyone, it's Shii-chan! Good news if you're drowning in security findings!

AWS What's New aws.amazon.com

What was announced?

AWS What's New announced that AWS Security Hub now offers remediation plans. They group related exposure findings that share a root cause.

What changes

Instead of addressing each exposure individually, you can fix a single underlying resource, such as a misconfigured setting or an overly permissive policy, and resolve or reduce the severity of multiple exposures at once.

Dive Deep

Each remediation plan includes:

  • Prioritization guidance (Critical, High, Medium, or Low)
  • Impact assessment
  • Detailed step-by-step instructions with examples in multiple formats, including AWS CLI, Terraform, CloudFormation, Python, and CDK

Security Hub automatically prioritizes plans so those reducing the most risk appear first.

AI agents can also programmatically consume remediation plans through the API to automate security fixes across your environment.

It's available in every AWS Region where Security Hub is available, at no additional cost under the AWS Security Hub Essentials plan.

Wrap-up

  • Remediation plans group exposure findings that share a root cause
  • Fixing one cause can resolve or reduce multiple exposures
  • Priority, impact assessment, and multi-format instructions, ordered by risk reduction
  • Available via API, so AI agents can automate fixes

This is for ops teams buried under a pile of security findings!
