What was announced?

According to AWS What's New, Claude Opus 4.8 is now available in AWS GovCloud (US)! Claude Opus 4.8 is positioned as Anthropic's most capable generally available model, and it shines at agentic coding, professional knowledge work, and long-running autonomous tasks. Now you can reach it from AWS GovCloud (US), the environment built for strict US government requirements.

The story so far

Claude Opus 4.8 was already offered in the regular regions, but AWS GovCloud (US) — used by government agencies and their partners — has its own special compliance requirements and a separate set of supported regions. In those buttoned-up environments, getting the newest models right away is not always possible. This update closes that gap, so Opus 4.8 is now within reach inside GovCloud (US) too.

Teams running government workloads on AWS can now use the latest Claude while keeping their data inside AWS. As the announcement puts it:
