Claude models now run in-region in Bedrock's London Region!

Hi everyone, it's Shii-chan! This is good news if you need to keep data in-country.

AWS What's New aws.amazon.com

What was announced?

AWS What's New announced in-region support for Anthropic's Claude Opus 5.5 and Claude Sonnet 5 on Amazon Bedrock in the UK (London) Region.

Why it matters

Customers who need to process data within the United Kingdom, including those in financial services, healthcare, and the public sector, can now use these models at scale while keeping inference in-country.

What changes

You get in-region inference on the bedrock-runtime endpoint in the London (eu-west-2) Region. Amazon Bedrock processes inference requests and data within the Region you call, and the processing never leaves that Region.

Dive Deep

  • Models: Claude Opus 5.5 and Claude Sonnet 5
  • Region: London (eu-west-2)
  • Endpoint: bedrock-runtime

For the latest model availability per Region, see "Regional availability by models" in the Amazon Bedrock User Guide. You can get started from the Bedrock console.

Wrap-up

  • Claude Opus 5.5 and Claude Sonnet 5 support in-region inference in London
  • Inference requests and data are processed within the Region you call
  • Aimed at organizations that need UK-only processing, such as finance, healthcare, and the public sector

This is for teams that want to use Claude under UK data residency requirements!
