Claude Sonnet 5.5 is now available on AWS, via Amazon Bedrock and Claude Platform on AWS

Hi everyone, Shii-chan here! Today's news is that a new Claude Sonnet is available on AWS.

AWS What's New aws.amazon.com

What was announced?

AWS What's New announced that Claude Sonnet 5.5 is now available on AWS. It's described as a smarter, more efficient Sonnet and a step up from Sonnet 5, a natural upgrade for teams already building on Sonnet.

The story so far

The baseline until now was Sonnet 5. Sonnet 5.5 is described as stronger in coding and knowledge work, with a lower cost per task for most work at faster speed.

What changes

It's stronger in two areas:

  • Coding: completing well-scoped tasks as part of a larger coding strategy, such as building and fixing features in the same session or verifying output against requirements
  • Knowledge work: producing ready-to-share output, from 1-pagers, diagrams, and summary slides to document edits and spreadsheet cleanup

Dive Deep

There are two ways to access it:

  • Amazon Bedrock: keeps your data within AWS infrastructure with regional data residency, and offers access through a unified service with AWS-managed features like Guardrails and Knowledge Bases
  • Claude Platform on AWS: direct access to Anthropic's native platform experience through the AWS Console, with the same APIs, features, and console experience you'd get working with Anthropic directly, unified with AWS billing and authentication

Check the Amazon Bedrock documentation for regional availability, and the Claude Platform on AWS documentation to get started.

Wrap-up

  • Claude Sonnet 5.5 is available on AWS
  • Stronger coding and knowledge work, with better cost and speed
  • Two ways to use it: Amazon Bedrock and Claude Platform on AWS
  • With Bedrock, you can pair it with Guardrails and Knowledge Bases

This is for teams building on Sonnet, and anyone who wants Claude with AWS billing and authentication!
