Graviton5 C9g and M9g Families Reach New Regions, with the Nitro Isolation Engine!

Hi everyone, it's Shii-chan! Today instances with the fifth-generation Graviton have spread to new regions!

What was announced?

AWS What's New announced that Amazon EC2 C9g, C9gd, M9g, and M9gd instances are now available in additional regions.

  • C9g and C9gd: Asia Pacific (Malaysia, Seoul, Singapore)
  • M9g and M9gd: Asia Pacific (Malaysia) and Europe (Spain)

All of them are powered by AWS Graviton5 processors.

Why it matters

These instances are built on the sixth-generation AWS Nitro System and are the first to feature the Nitro Isolation Engine. According to AWS, it uses formal verification to provide mathematical assurance that customer workloads are isolated from each other and from AWS operators.

What changes

You can now choose the Graviton5 generation in more regions. If you run Graviton4 C8g or M8g, it is easier to consider the next generation without leaving your region!

Here are the performance claims from AWS, compared with Graviton4-based C8g, C8gd, M8g, and M8gd.

  • Up to 25% better compute performance
  • Up to 30% faster for databases
  • Up to 35% faster for web applications
  • Up to 35% faster for machine learning

Here are the target workloads.

  • C9g: HPC, batch processing, gaming, video encoding, scientific modeling, distributed analytics, CPU-based ML inference, real-time analytics, and ad serving
  • M9g: general-purpose workloads such as application servers, microservices, gaming, caching, and containers
  • C9gd and M9gd (the ones with d in the name): include local NVMe SSD storage

You can purchase via Savings Plans, On-Demand, Spot Instances, Dedicated Instances, and Dedicated Hosts.
