AWS Entity Resolution Can Now Show Confidence Scores Per Record!
Hi everyone, it's me! I found a nice AWS Entity Resolution update today, so let's dive right in!
AWS What's NewWhat was announced?
AWS's What's New page announced that AWS Entity Resolution's machine learning (ML) based matching workflows now support record-level confidence scores. Previously, every record in a match group shared the same group-level confidence score. Now, each resolved record gets its own score reflecting its actual match quality.
The story so far
Before this update, every record in a match group carried the same group-level confidence score. That made it impossible to tell a near-certain match apart from a borderline one. As a result, you had to apply a single confidence threshold across all records, which limited how many resolved identities you could actually activate.
What changes
With per-record scores, you can now apply different thresholds depending on the use case.
- Use a higher threshold for automated merges, where you want near-certain matches only
- Use a lower threshold elsewhere, to also include additional records that still meet your quality bar
This lets you activate larger addressable audiences and improve lead conversion, while keeping compliance-grade, audit-ready evidence for each resolved record.
Dive Deep
If you're using incremental ML workflows, the existing RecordConfidenceLevel column now reflects the actual per-record score, with no schema changes required. So you can start getting this more precise signal without touching your existing workflow.
This is available now, with no extra setup, in every AWS Region where AWS Entity Resolution is offered. Check the user guide or the AWS Entity Resolution product page for more.
Wrap-up
- AWS Entity Resolution's ML matching now includes record-level confidence scores
- Unlike the old group-level score, each record now reflects its real match quality
- You can use different thresholds for automated merges versus additional inclusions
- The existing RecordConfidenceLevel column works as-is, no schema changes needed
- Available now in all supported Regions
If you're doing identity resolution or customer data matching with AWS Entity Resolution, this is a small but genuinely useful update for you!
