Hey everyone, it's Shii! Today I spotted news that some new AI models landed in AWS GovCloud, so let me tell you all about it.

What was announced?

According to the AWS What's New feed, two new models were added to the Kiro IDE and CLI for the AWS GovCloud (US-West) Region. The additions are OpenAI GPT-5.4 and NVIDIA Nemotron 3 Super 120B.

The story so far

GovCloud (US) is an isolated environment built for the US government and highly regulated industries. Models available in the regular commercial regions are not always available there right away, so each time coverage expands, we get an announcement like this. Now GovCloud (US-West) lets you pick these two models from Kiro too.

What changes

Developers on GovCloud can now choose GPT-5.4 inside Kiro for complex reasoning, coding, and multi-step agentic workflows, or reach for Nemotron 3 Super 120B as a cost-efficient open-weight option. Being able to switch models to fit the task is the nice part.

  • OpenAI GPT-5.4 targets complex reasoning, coding, document analysis, and multi-step agentic workflows. It runs on Amazon Bedrock's next-generation inference engine with isolated queues and durable execution for resilient workloads. It comes with a 272K context window and a 1.2x credit multiplier.
  • NVIDIA Nemotron 3 Super 120B is an open-weight option. It's a hybrid mixture-of-experts model that activates only 12B of its 120B parameters for high compute efficiency and fast inference on agentic tasks. It has a 256K context window, 32K max output, and a 0.25x credit multiplier.
