GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna Arrive on Amazon Bedrock!

Hey, it's Shii-chan! I just found some exciting news about Amazon Bedrock, and I cannot wait to tell you about it.

AWS What's New aws.amazon.com

What was announced?

According to AWS What's New, OpenAI's new GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna models are now generally available (GA) on Amazon Bedrock, joining Astra to round out the GPT-6 family.

Sol is the daily-driver model, built for recurring complex tasks and software development. On an internal OpenAI factuality evaluation, it makes roughly half as many mistakes as GPT-5.6 Sol.

Luna, on the other hand, is the most efficient model in the family, tuned for focused, high-volume work like summarization, extraction, classification, and routing.

Why it matters

Amazon Bedrock has always stood out for letting you pick from models across multiple vendors, including Anthropic and Amazon's own models. Adding OpenAI's latest models to that lineup is a meaningful step.

Being able to reach for the right model for the job, from multiple vendors, inside a single cloud platform is a big win if you want to avoid vendor lock-in. It gives teams the freedom to match the model to the task instead of being stuck with just one option.

What changes

The biggest change: if you're already on Amazon Bedrock, you can now call GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna right from your existing setup.

  • Complex coding and multistep workflows: reach for Sol
  • High-volume tasks like summarization, extraction, classification, and routing: reach for Luna

And because both run through Bedrock, you get to keep using AWS's existing security controls, access governance, and audit logging for model invocations. Not having to rebuild your security posture from scratch for every new model is a real relief for enterprise teams.

Dive Deep

Let's get into the technical details.

  • Both models support up to 1M tokens of context, so you can feed in long documents or extensive conversation history in one go.
  • Sol can implement features, debug issues, review and refactor code, analyze data, and complete multistep workflows across tools. Improvements in coding and computer use help it carry a task all the way from investigation through validation.
  • Luna comes with adjustable reasoning effort, so you can tune the balance between quality, speed, and cost per request. That's handy when you're running high-volume workloads and watching your budget.
  • You can get started right away, either through the Amazon Bedrock console or programmatically through supported Bedrock APIs.

Wrap-up

  • OpenAI's GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna are now GA on Amazon Bedrock
  • Sol is built for complex tasks and development work; Luna is built for high-volume, focused tasks
  • Both support up to 1M tokens of context
  • You keep AWS's existing security, access governance, and audit tools
  • This one's especially for teams already on Bedrock who want to mix and match models by task, and I bet a lot of you engineers will want to check it out!
