Amazon Route 53 now supports Premium Domains

Hi, it's Shii-chan!

AWS What's New aws.amazon.com

Short, memorable domains are tempting, right? There is good news for them in Route 53!

What was announced?

According to AWS What's New, Amazon Route 53 Domains now supports Premium Domain Names. You can do the following directly in Route 53:

  • Search
  • Register
  • Transfer
  • Renew
  • Restore

The story so far

Most domain registries set aside names that are short, memorable, or in high demand as "premium". Route 53 Domains did not support them before, so you had to register and manage them with other registrars. That split domain portfolios across multiple providers.

What changes

  • You can find and get premium domains in Route 53
  • You can consolidate existing premium domains from other registrars
  • You can manage premium and standard domains together in one place

Dive Deep

Finding and registering a premium domain works just like it does for standard domains. Premium domains appear automatically in domain search and availability results, with pricing shown upfront, so you know the cost before you commit.

For the supported top-level domains, check the Route 53 TLD list.

Wrap-up

  • Route 53 Domains supports registering, transferring, renewing, and restoring premium domains
  • They show up automatically in search results with upfront pricing
  • Premium and standard domains are managed together

This is for anyone who does not want domains scattered across registrars!
