Claude Mythos 5's security capabilities are reaching more defenders!

What was announced?

Anthropic's Claude Blog announced a set of efforts to bring the cybersecurity capabilities of its latest model, Claude Mythos 5, to more defender organizations. This update is aimed at the people who find and fix vulnerabilities and protect systems, not at attackers.

The story so far

Until now, Anthropic had offered early access to Mythos 5 only to a limited set of defender teams, such as critical infrastructure operators, through an effort called "Project Glasswing." The idea was to let real-world defenders find vulnerabilities before the model became broadly available. In other words, access to Mythos 5's security capabilities has been fairly narrow so far.

What changes

This announcement widens who can use Mythos 5's security capabilities.

• Enterprise customers can now run vulnerability scans on Mythos 5 through Claude Security, receiving findings with severity ratings and suggested patches for human review
• Anthropic is also working with cybersecurity partners to embed Mythos 5 into existing defensive tools, so end users access its capabilities through purpose-built interfaces rather than the model directly

The key idea behind this approach is that what users receive is limited to specific outputs, like a patch for a vulnerability or a security alert, rather than direct access to the model itself. By narrowing the output this way, Anthropic aims to limit the risk that these dual-use capabilities get misused offensively, while still making them useful for defenders.

• A new "Defender Advantage Fund" offers $35 million in credits to organizations that patch open-source vulnerabilities, automate security scanning, or build resilience
• The "Cyber Verification Program" is also expanding. It has already provided reduced safeguards on the Opus and Sonnet models, and Anthropic now plans to extend Mythos-class access to verified defender organizations as well
