Build plugins for Claude: the directory submission portal is now open
Hi everyone, Shii-chan here! Today's news is for developers who want to extend Claude.
Claude BlogWhat was announced?
The Claude Blog published "Build plugins for Claude." It announces a new directory submission portal where developers on paid Claude plans can publish plugins.
Why it matters
This effort consolidates Claude's extension ecosystem and positions plugins as the primary way for third parties to extend Claude.
What changes
There are two kinds of submissions:
- A single MCP connector that points to a remote server
- A plugin bundle that combines MCP servers and skills, hosted on GitHub
Skills and connectors already in the directory don't need any changes, and can be converted to plugins later.
Dive Deep
Here is the flow from submission to publishing, and what you get afterward:
- Submissions are automatically validated and scanned for safety
- You can track status and feedback in real time
- After approval, you decide when to publish
- After launch, you can see installs by product surface and version, listing views, and the search queries driving traffic to your plugin
On the technical side, it supports the MCP 2.0 specification with two extensions:
- MCP Apps: interactive UI inside chat
- Enterprise Managed Auth: zero-touch OAuth for enterprise deployments
To get started, read the documentation on how to build a plugin and submit through the portal.
Wrap-up
- A plugin directory submission portal is open for developers on paid plans
- Submit a single MCP connector or a bundle of MCP servers and skills
- Includes automatic validation, safety scanning, and post-launch analytics
- Supports MCP 2.0, MCP Apps, and Enterprise Managed Auth
This is for developers building tools and integrations for Claude!
