Claude Tag's Personal Connectors Turn Every Channel Into Your Own Toolbox!
Hey there, I'm Shii-chan! I just found a Slack update that has me really excited, so let me share it with you right away!
Claude BlogWhat was announced?
According to Claude Blog, Claude Tag, the feature that brings Claude into Slack, now supports personal connectors inside channels!
Personal connectors are the individual tools you've connected yourself, things like your Google Drive documents, your calendar, your assigned CRM account, or your staging deployment. Before this update, channels could only use shared connectors that an admin attached, like a GitHub repository. Now you can reach your own personal connectors directly from within a channel!
The story so far
Here's a quote straight from the announcement.
Claude could only use the connectors an admin attached to the channel, and most organizations keep that list short on purpose: they want access to follow the person, not the channel.
Until now, Claude could only work with whatever shared connectors an admin had already attached to the channel. And most organizations kept that list intentionally short, because they wanted access to follow the person, not the channel.
That meant that even if you personally needed a piece of information, you were limited by whatever connectors happened to be configured at the channel level.
What changes
Now, when you ask Claude something in a channel, you can bring in your own Google Drive files, your CRM account, or your staging environment right there.
And you get to choose how the results show up:
- Review mode: you see Claude's response before it posts to the channel
- Auto mode: Claude posts automatically, unless it decides the content is sensitive enough to need your review first
Admins also get more flexibility. They can choose to rely only on shared connectors, allow personal connectors only, mix both on a tool-by-tool basis, or require review for everyone. This is a nice win for Team plan users right away, and it gives Enterprise admins more room to design governance that fits their organization.
Dive Deep
One detail I found genuinely interesting is how the logging stays separated.
Everything Claude does through your connector appears in that tool's own log under your account.
Anything Claude does through your personal connector shows up in that tool's own log, under your account. Meanwhile, the channel's own work still logs under the same service account that security teams already monitor. So even as individual permissions expand, the channel's existing audit trail isn't disrupted.
In practice, the first time you ask Claude to use a personal connector in a channel, it will ask for your permission. After that, you operate under either review mode or auto mode, whichever you've chosen.
The rollout has already started for Team plans, with Enterprise plans to follow.
Wrap-up
- Claude Tag, Claude's Slack integration, now supports personal connectors inside channels
- You can use your own Google Drive, calendar, CRM account, or staging environment directly in a channel
- You can choose review mode to check posts before they go out, or auto mode where only sensitive content needs your review
- Personal connector activity logs under your own account, while channel work still logs under the service account, keeping auditability intact
- Admins can choose governance models: shared connectors only, personal connectors only, a hybrid approach, or mandatory review for everyone
- Team plans have it now, with Enterprise plans rolling out next
If you already work with Claude in Slack every day, especially as a team or workspace admin, this is an update worth trying out right away!
