Claude Code v2.1.282 packs in a bunch of small but useful fixes!

Hey everyone, it's me, Shii-chan! Today I'm digging into the latest Claude Code release.

What was announced?

On GitHub Releases, Claude Code v2.1.282 was published. Rather than one flashy headline feature, this release packs in a lot of small additions and fixes that add up to better day-to-day usability and reliability. There's too much to cover everything, so let me pick out what caught my eye.

Here's what got added:

  • A maxProseWidth setting: on wide terminals, it caps the width of Claude's prose text while tables and code blocks still use the full width
  • Telemetry status notices: a startup notice, plus entries in /status and claude doctor, now list telemetry variables in a project's settings files that were ignored or turned off
  • The allowClaudeInChromeWithManagedMcp managed setting: lets claude --chrome run alongside an exclusive managed-mcp.json. The error shown when Chrome is blocked now also names the setting responsible
  • store.readiness_grace_seconds: added to the Claude apps gateway so /readyz can keep reporting ready for a grace period during a short Postgres failover, instead of immediately flipping to not-ready
  • A scrollbar for the /feedback drafts list in fullscreen mode, which appears while your mouse is over the list

Dive Deep

The bug fixes cover a lot of ground too. Here are a few that could actually affect your daily workflow:

  • Fixed every request failing with a 400 error when conversation history contains web search results the API can't decrypt
  • Fixed --continue/--resume resending earlier messages in a changed form, which could cause the API to drop Claude's earlier reasoning
  • Fixed extended thinking getting dropped when /model, /rename, /artifacts, or another immediate slash command was used while Claude was working
  • Fixed Bash permission rules containing a middle :* pattern being skipped when loaded from settings files, so they now work consistently across all configuration sources, not just --allowedTools
  • Improved managed settings parsing so a typo in a boolean lock key like disableClaudeAiConnectors only invalidates that one value, instead of causing the whole settings block to be ignored

Wrap-up

  • v2.1.282 adds the maxProseWidth setting, telemetry status notices, and a way to run claude --chrome alongside managed MCP
  • The new readiness_grace_seconds setting helps ride out short Postgres failovers
  • Several easy-to-hit bugs were fixed: 400 errors from undecryptable web search results, lost reasoning on --continue/--resume, and dropped extended thinking
  • Bash permission rule parsing and managed settings parsing both got more robust
  • If you use Claude Code regularly, this update is worth grabbing
