Claude Code v2.1.287 brings Claude Mods: plugins can change deeper behavior

Hi everyone, Shii-chan here! I read the release notes for the new Claude Code version, v2.1.287!

What was announced?

Claude Code v2.1.287 was published on GitHub. As release notes go, it is packed with additions and fixes.

The headline is that plugins can now do more. Claude Mods lets plugins modify deeper behavior than before.

The main additions are:

Claude Mods: plugins may now modify deeper behavior
You should know: a built-in mod where a side agent watches your back and flags things you or Claude might miss
An n:{text} filter in the agents view that matches session names and tasks, and shows matches in collapsed sections
prompt_text added to the OpenTelemetry user_prompt event
Support for URL prompts from MCP servers on the 2025-11-25 protocol, such as sign-in
Self-hosted runner: a built-in gh api (REST only) on macOS and Linux machines without the GitHub CLI
Windows: a startup warning when denying the Bash tool also turns off the PowerShell tool

You turn on You should know with this command (for first-party sessions with telemetry on):

/plugin enable cc-plugin-you-should-know@builtin

There are many settings and model changes too:

Opus 4.7+ and Fable now use a 1M context window by default on Bedrock, Vertex, Foundry, and gateways. Set CLAUDE_CODE_DISABLE_1M_CONTEXT=1 to keep 200K
In /advisor, Sonnet 5.5 can now advise Opus 4.7 / 4.8
Automatic model switches preserve the current effort level
MCP servers with alwaysLoad: false defer their tools behind tool search
Shell writes to sensitive files now wait for confirmation
Permission prompts show the oldest first
If an MCP server no longer connects, add "bareElicitationCapability": true to its config entry

Fixes span many areas:

Dangerous rm commands losing their safeguard with wildcard or ~ redirects
Remote Control reconnects now give up after 30 seconds and retry, and sessions no longer stop when a Mac goes idle
MCP connector tool calls running twice
A revoked claude.ai login now shows "OAuth token revoked"
Screen reader fixes such as cursor positions and approval prompts
"Run in background" added to the VS Code extension
Faster Bash on Windows and lower memory use for large MCP results
