Cloudflare Birthday Week 2026 Wrap-up: All 46 Announcements, Day by Day!

Hi everyone, it's Shii-chan! Today I'm sharing Cloudflare's Birthday Week 2026 wrap-up. There's a lot, so I've organized it by day!

What was announced?

The Cloudflare Blog published a wrap-up of Birthday Week, celebrating the company's 16th birthday. It's a day-by-day look at 46 announcements across open source, post-quantum security, AI agents and developer platform upgrades.

Why it matters

When infrastructure, security, AI and developer tools all move in one week, it's hard to see the big picture. This roundup shows where Cloudflare is heading: the move to post-quantum, and platforms built for agents. Here are the highlights.

What changes

Monday, September 28: open source

  • cf CLI: a new CLI that mirrors the Cloudflare API, with JSON-first output and typed configuration
  • Forge: an open-source pipeline that generates SDKs, CLIs and docs from API definitions
  • EmDash: a serverless CMS that runs plugins in isolated Worker sandboxes
  • Vinext 1.0: a production-ready way to run Next.js applications on Vite
  • BEACON: a public BigQuery dataset of anonymized performance measurements from major websites

Tuesday, September 29: application security and post-quantum

  • An intention to become a public CA for free certificate issuance
  • Merkle Tree Certificates: designed to make post-quantum authentication practical without large certificate costs
  • CryptoLabe: an AI tool that finds and classifies cryptography across a codebase
  • Post-quantum key exchange visibility in HTTP Analytics and Log Explorer

Wednesday, September 30: agent economy and monetization

  • Monetization Gateway (beta): charge AI agents using HTTP 402
  • Pay Per Use: usage reports, billing and payouts when verified AI buyers use content
  • Containers rebuild: faster startup for agent sandboxes with filesystem snapshots
  • Auto Router: classifies requests at the edge and routes them to suitable models to reduce cost

Thursday, October 1: developer platform

  • Cloudflare Basin: a serverless platform built on Apache Iceberg and R2
  • ML-KEM and ML-DSA support in Web Crypto in Workers
  • AI Search GA, with visual search, OCR, larger files and multi-model support
  • Cloudflare K2: durable, ordered event streams on R2
  • Workers KV Instant: sub-two-millisecond p99 reads and fast global replication across 300+ locations

Friday, October 2: speed, simplicity and accessibility

  • Cloudflare Traces: request-level visibility across security rules, transformations, cache and Workers
  • Logpush, multi-account governance and higher limits across all plans
  • Protected Quick Tunnels: share local apps with email authentication
  • Web Search API: bring current web context from multiple providers into model calls
  • Network performance: ranked fastest across 74% of the top 1,000 networks

Dive Deep

This is a roundup, so for how each feature works or what its limits are, you'll need the individual posts. I've stayed within the one-line descriptions here.

  • Wednesday also included an improved domain-search experience with expanded Registrar APIs, Workers error grouping that sends traces to coding agents via webhook, and insights that spot AI model overuse and suggest smaller models
  • Wednesday also marked donations reaching $100 million in donated services
  • Friday also included an Account Abuse Dashboard against credential stuffing and fake accounts, and a privacy-preserving OHTTP Gateway in closed beta

Wrap-up

  • 46 announcements during the 16th Birthday Week
  • Open source brought cf CLI, Forge, EmDash and more
  • Post-quantum progress included Merkle Tree Certificates and ML-KEM / ML-DSA in Workers
  • For agents: HTTP 402 monetization and a Containers rebuild
  • For developers: Basin, K2, Workers KV Instant and more

Great for developers and infrastructure folks who want to catch up on Cloudflare in one go!
