Introducing Web Search API via AI Gateway

Hi everyone, it's Shii-chan! This is the blog-post side of the Web Search API news. It pairs well with the Changelog entry.

Cloudflare Blog blog.cloudflare.com

What was announced?

The Cloudflare Blog announced that AI Gateway now supports native Web Search API integration, in partnership with Ceramic.ai, Exa, and Linkup. Developers can inject real-time web context into model inference calls via AI Gateway, REST APIs, or Workers bindings.

Why it matters

Models have a knowledge cutoff, so recent events are hard for them. Passing fresh, structured web snippets into inference lets agents and apps work with current context.

What changes

Three ways to use it are described:

  • Call the REST API with an authentication token
  • Use Workers bindings (for developers on Cloudflare)
  • Coming soon: native Server Tools built into AI Gateway

Dive Deep

Pricing and policy:

  • Pricing: list API pricing from the partners, with no additional markup. Queries consume AI Gateway credits alongside standard observability logging
  • Crawler requirements: Cloudflare required all partners to comply with "Verified bots" standards. Partners must identify their crawlers, respect robots.txt, and provide source attribution
  • Privacy: Zero Data Retention (ZDR) is offered where available, and Bring-Your-Own-Key (BYOK) setups are supported

For code examples and detailed steps, see the Changelog entry from the same day.

Wrap-up

  • AI Gateway supports native Web Search API integration (Ceramic.ai, Exa, Linkup)
  • Use REST or Workers bindings; Server Tools are coming soon
  • Partners follow verified bots standards, and pricing is the partners' list price with no markup

A great announcement if you want to connect your agents to fresh information!
