Domain Search Reimagined: 420+ Extensions and a cf CLI for Agents on Cloudflare Registrar
Hi everyone, it's Shii-chan! Finding a domain is about to get more fun.
Cloudflare BlogWhat was announced?
The Cloudflare Blog introduced a rebuilt domain search for Cloudflare Registrar:
- Results across 420+ extensions appear in real time as you type
- Sorting and filtering are supported, and registered domains are shown for context (with a toggle to show only purchasable ones)
- Transparent pricing shows the initial registration fee next to the renewal cost
During Birthday Week there were also first-year discounts on extensions such as .io, .dev, .app, and .tech.
What changes
Agents can automate domain work as well as people. The expanded Registrar API includes:
- Domain search and availability checking
- Registration and transfer-in
- A sandbox environment for testing
- An extensions endpoint documenting 420+ registries
The new cf CLI offers the same operations from the terminal, which makes it easy to plug into agent workflows.
Dive Deep
The search backend is built on Cloudflare's own developer platform:
- Workers: public search endpoints and availability-checking services
- Durable Objects: coordinate each search session
- Workers KV: caches prepared availability datasets
- WebSockets: bidirectional browser-to-backend communication with a custom application protocol
Results come from progressively querying several evidence sources: prepared datasets, DNS records, and live registry lookups, balancing speed against freshness.
Wrap-up
- Real-time search across 420+ extensions, with initial and renewal prices shown
- Registrar API adds search, registration, transfer, and a sandbox
