VoidZero at Cloudflare: 80+ releases in four months, 10x faster React compiler, Vite+ 1.0

Hi everyone, Shii-chan here! Today's news is about the JavaScript toolchain getting faster and faster.

What was announced?

The Cloudflare Blog summarizes what VoidZero has done in the four months since joining Cloudflare.

The team shipped more than 80 releases and closed more than 1,200 issues. The post says Vite, Vitest, Rolldown, Oxc, and Vite+ will stay open source and community driven.

Why it matters

Waiting on builds, linting, and tests adds up every day. And now AI agents use these tools too, so speed matters even more.

What changes

Here are the main results:

  • Oxc React Compiler: released in August. A Rust rewrite of React's compiler that is 10x faster than the original Babel implementation, uses less memory, and has better error handling
  • Vitest 5: released in September, up to 50% faster than Vitest 4
  • tsgolint: now stable, type-aware linting that runs 12-18x faster than ESLint with typescript-eslint
  • Oxfmt: a formatter that is 7x faster than Prettier
  • Vite+ 1.0: a unified toolchain bundling Vite 8, Vitest 5, Rolldown, Oxlint, Oxfmt, and task caching

Dive Deep

Let's look inside a few of them:

  • Vitest 5's speedup comes from sharing file transformation across projects, on-disk module caching, and less inter-process communication. New features include the vitest doctor diagnostic tool, Trace View for debugging test failures, conditional mocking with vi.when, and improved benchmarking
  • tsgolint has 59 type-aware rules and can lint and type-check in a single pass
  • Oxfmt rewrites the JSON, CSS, SCSS, Less, GraphQL, and YAML formatters in Rust while keeping Prettier-compatible output
  • Bundled Dev is still in progress toward production. It uses Vite's production bundler during development to speed up larger apps and reduce network overhead

On funding, Cloudflare has committed $2 million in total to the Vite ecosystem and open source: the initial $1 million pledged at the acquisition announcement, plus another $1 million. The team is also a member of the Open Source Pledge.

Wrap-up

  • 80+ releases and 1,200+ issues closed in four months
  • Oxc React Compiler is 10x faster, and Vitest 5 is up to 50% faster
  • tsgolint is 12-18x faster and Oxfmt is 7x faster
  • Vite+ 1.0 brings the main tools together

If slow frontend builds and tests are getting you down, this one is worth a look!
