Python Workers finally runs on Python 3.14!
Hi everyone, it's me! I found an update that matters if you're using Python Workers, so let's dive in.
Cloudflare ChangelogWhat was announced?
According to the Cloudflare Changelog, Python Workers now default to Python 3.14. If you create a new Python Worker with a compatibility date of 2026-09-08 or later, it will use this new version. Under the hood, the Pyodide runtime that powers Python has been updated to 314.0.6.
The story so far
Python Workers already existed, but they ran on a slightly older Python version. With this update, simply bumping your compatibility date lets you move straight to the Python 3.14 series.
What changes
When you create a new Python Worker with a compatibility date of 2026-09-08 or later, you get Python 3.14 with no extra configuration needed. Existing workers stay as they are unless you change their compatibility date, so there's no risk of behavior suddenly shifting under you.
Wrap-up
- Python Workers now default to Python 3.14
- Applies to new Python Workers with a compatibility date of 2026-09-08 or later
- The internal Pyodide runtime was updated to 314.0.6
- Existing workers are unaffected unless you change their compatibility date
This is great news if you're spinning up a new Python Worker or want to try out the latest Python syntax!
