Cloudflare One Client for Windows Beta Fixes a Bunch of Reconnect and DNS Glitches!

Hi, I'm Shii-chan! Today I want to share an update on the Windows beta of the Cloudflare One Client — small fixes, but the kind that make a real difference if you use it every day!

What was announced?

Cloudflare's Changelog announced a new beta release of the Cloudflare One Client for Windows, version 2026.8.1755.1. It's available from the beta releases download page.

The story so far

The previous Windows client had a handful of small-but-annoying issues:

  • Traffic to split-tunnel-excluded resources could be briefly blocked while connecting or reconnecting
  • Reauthentication could sometimes force a new device registration
  • The client didn't handle networks lowering their MTU very well
  • Slow captive portal checks could make the client service unresponsive or cause it to restart
  • A race condition when switching tunnel protocols during WireGuard key rotation could prevent it from connecting

What changes

  • Split tunnel traffic blocking is fixed, so reconnects should feel safer to rely on
  • Reauthentication reliability is improved, and unwanted new registrations are less likely
  • MTU handling is better on lower-MTU networks, and DNS-over-HTTPS traffic is now more stable thanks to MSS clamping
  • The client no longer requires the Windows WLAN AutoConfig service, reducing a dependency in some environments
  • A new service recovery mechanism, backed by the Windows Task Scheduler, restarts the WARP service on unlock if it isn't already running

Dive Deep

This beta also adds support for routing non-RFC 1918 local IPv4 networks through the WARP tunnel when unrestricted LAN inclusion is enabled by policy or MDM — useful for organizations using non-standard private address ranges.

It also fixes API requests being dropped when reusing pooled connections (now retried), the client continuing to show "No network" after a manual disconnect, and Digital Experience Monitoring (DEX) HTTP tests failing TLS validation. No known issues were reported for this release.

Wrap-up

  • Cloudflare One Client for Windows beta 2026.8.1755.1 is out
  • Fixes many connection-related issues: split tunnel traffic blocking, reauthentication reliability, and MTU handling
  • Also fixes a WireGuard key-rotation race condition and slow captive portal checks
  • Adds routing support for non-RFC 1918 local IPv4 networks through the tunnel

This update is worth a look for Windows users relying on Cloudflare One (WARP) as their corporate VPN, and for the network admins supporting them.
