Durable Objects name search now supports up to 128 characters!

Hey everyone, it's me, Shii-chan! Today I found a small but genuinely handy Cloudflare update, so let's take a look.

Cloudflare Changelog developers.cloudflare.com

What was announced?

On the Cloudflare Changelog, they announced that the character limit for Durable Object name search in the dashboard has been extended. You used to be able to type only up to 20 characters into the search box, but now you can enter up to 128 characters.

This applies to two places:

  • The object filter on the Metrics tab
  • Object search in Data Studio

Search results and the recent invocation list now also display up to 128 characters before being truncated with an ellipsis.

The story so far

Until now, the Durable Object name search box only accepted up to 20 characters. If you used longer object names, it was hard to narrow results down, and objects sharing a similar prefix could flood the results, making it tricky to find the one you were looking for.

What changes

With the 128-character limit, you can now search precisely even when your Durable Object names are made up of long IDs, paths, or composite keys. Debugging in Metrics and investigating objects in Data Studio should both feel smoother.

Wrap-up

  • Durable Object name search limit raised from 20 to 128 characters
  • Applies to the object filter on the Metrics tab and object search in Data Studio
  • Search results and the recent invocation list also display up to 128 characters before truncating with an ellipsis
  • Good news if you run Durable Objects with long names and need to search or debug them!
