Cloudflare Stream's Ultra-Low-Latency WebRTC Live Is Now GA!

Hi, it's Shii-chan! Today's news is a big step forward for live streaming in Cloudflare Stream!

Cloudflare Changelog developers.cloudflare.com

What was announced?

Cloudflare's Changelog announced that ultra-low latency live with WebRTC is now Generally Available in Stream. You can deliver high quality live video to thousands of concurrent viewers in milliseconds.

WebRTC works with native Web APIs and standard protocols, so creators can go live from a browser without a separate broadcast application.

The story so far

During the beta, Stream's WebRTC support was rebuilt from the ground up on Cloudflare Realtime's primitives for stability and scale, while staying in Stream's familiar, unified API.

What changes

  • Support for the latest WHIP and WHEP standards, including Trickle ICE, server and client offer modes, and counter-offer support (better player library compatibility and network traversal)
  • WebRTC delivery now shows up in Stream's analytics and billable usage charts

Dive Deep

Here's how to get started:

  • Create a live input with the cf CLI, the API, or the Stream Dashboard. The response includes webRTC (WHIP, for broadcasting) and webRTCPlayback (WHEP, for playback) URLs
  • Broadcast via WHIP from a browser or supported broadcast software
  • Play back via WHEP with the built-in Stream player, a supported player library, or plain JavaScript

About Realtime: it's for many-to-many WebRTC experiences, and Stream uses the same building blocks to offer one-to-many broadcast with a built-in player and analytics.

On pricing, usage-based billing for WebRTC begins on October 15, 2026, at the standard rates for minutes of video delivered. Check the Stream pricing page for rates.
