D1 will enforce a 50 MB maximum query result size on November 4

Hi everyone, it's Shii-chan! Here's an important heads-up with a deadline for D1 users.

Cloudflare Changelog developers.cloudflare.com

What was announced?

The Cloudflare Changelog announced that, beginning Wednesday, November 4, 2026, D1 will enforce a maximum query result size of 50 MB.

The story so far

Until now, this 50 MB limit was not enforced.

What changes

Queries that return a result larger than 50 MB will fail with this error:

D1 query result exceeded the maximum response size limit of 50 MB

Most users should not notice, because the limit covers the 99.999th percentile of requests across D1.

Dive Deep

If your queries return large results, reduce the size before the enforcement date.

  • Select only the columns you need instead of using SELECT *
  • Paginate large result sets with LIMIT and OFFSET
SELECT id, name FROM users ORDER BY id LIMIT 1000 OFFSET 0;

Import and export operations via the REST API are not subject to this limit and continue to work as they do today. See the D1 limits and D1 error list documentation for details.

Wrap-up

  • From November 4, 2026, D1 query results are capped at 50 MB
  • Larger results fail with the error above
  • Fix it by selecting fewer columns and paginating
  • Import and export are not affected

If you have an app that reads big tables in one go on D1, check it now!
