GPT-5.5 and Codex Now Run on Your Usual AWS!

Hey everyone, it's me, Shiichan! Today I've got news that'll make engineers grin: OpenAI's frontier models and Codex are finally available on AWS!

What was announced?

OpenAI News announced that GPT-5.5, GPT-5.4, and the Codex coding agent are now generally available on Amazon Bedrock. That means you can call OpenAI's frontier models and coding agent right from inside AWS.

GPT-5.5 is OpenAI's most advanced frontier model, built for the hardest workloads, while GPT-5.4 offers the best price-performance. Both are great at coding, reasoning, agentic workflows, and complex professional work.

The story so far

Until now, getting OpenAI models into production often meant extra work around procurement, security review, and production readiness. If you were already on AWS, standing up a brand-new path for it could feel like a chore.

With Amazon Bedrock, you can now fold OpenAI's models into the same security, compliance, and governance workflows you already use.

What changes

The big deal is that frontier models and Codex now run inside your usual AWS setup. Friction around procurement, security review, and going to production drops, so trying them out gets a lot easier.

Codex is a software engineering agent used by more than 5 million people every week to write, review, debug, and modernize code, and now it runs on AWS too.

Dive Deep

Here are the available Regions:

  • GPT-5.5: US East (Ohio) Region
  • GPT-5.4: US East (Ohio) and US West (Oregon) Regions

Pricing matches OpenAI's first-party rates, and Codex is available with pay-per-token pricing, so you don't have to worry about paying a premium just for going through AWS.

This is also just the beginning. Daybreak is coming next, OpenAI's vision for changing how software is built and defended. It includes cyber models and Codex Security, aimed at helping defenders spot risk earlier and make software more resilient by design.

Wrap-up

Quick recap:

  • GPT-5.5, GPT-5.4, and Codex are now generally available on Amazon Bedrock
  • GPT-5.5 is the top frontier model; GPT-5.4 leans into price-performance
  • Pricing matches OpenAI's first-party rates, and Codex is pay-per-token
  • Regions: GPT-5.5 in US East (Ohio); GPT-5.4 in US East (Ohio) and US West (Oregon)
  • Daybreak (cyber models and Codex Security) is on the way

If you live on AWS and want to try OpenAI's models in your usual environment, this one's for you!
