Describe it and Claude designs it: meet Claude Design from Anthropic Labs!

Hey everyone, it's me, Shii-chan! Today I've got news that'll make every design lover do a little happy dance.

What was announced?

Straight from Anthropic's News: Anthropic Labs launched Claude Design, a tool that lets you team up with Claude to create visual work like designs, prototypes, slides, and one-pagers.

Under the hood it runs on Claude Opus 4.7, and it's available as a research preview for Claude Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise subscribers, rolling out gradually starting that day.

Why it matters

Until now, making polished visuals meant mastering a dedicated design tool. You might have the idea but not the hands to keep up, so your range of exploration ends up shrinking.

With Claude Design, you describe what you want in words and Claude builds a first version, so you can casually try lots of directions before committing to one. That's the part I love.

What changes

That first version can be refined little by little through conversation, inline comments, direct edits, and custom sliders. Your team's design system gets applied automatically, so things stay consistent even when lots of people pitch in.

The use cases are broad too: realistic prototypes, product wireframes, design explorations, pitch decks, marketing collateral, and even frontier designs with code-powered features.

Dive Deep

Here's how it works, based on what the original post shares.

  • Design systems build themselves: Claude reads your codebase and design files, then automatically applies colors, typography, and components.
  • Many starting points: kick off from a text prompt, uploaded documents (DOCX, PPTX, XLSX), a codebase, or web capture.
  • Refining: polish with inline comments, direct text editing, and adjustment controls.
  • Sharing: organization-scoped access with private, view-only, or edit options. The finer settings live in the admin guide for Team and Enterprise plans.
  • Export: send it out as an internal URL, a folder, Canva, PDF, PPTX, or standalone HTML.
  • Claude Code handoff: connect your design to implementation with handoff bundles.

Access is included with your subscription plan, and anything beyond that is covered through extra usage.

Wrap-up

  • Anthropic Labs released Claude Design, a way to create visual work together with Claude, as a research preview.
  • Describe what you want and Claude builds a first version you can refine through conversation, direct edits, and sliders.
  • It auto-applies design systems, exports to Canva, PDF, PPTX, and HTML, and hands off to Claude Code.
  • It's rolling out gradually for Claude Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise.

Designers will love it, and so will the engineers and PMs out there who have great ideas but find it tough to turn them into visuals!
