Tag @Claude in Slack: Meet Claude Tag, Your New Teammate!
Hey everyone, it's Shiichan! Today's news is going to make team work so much smoother.
Anthropic News
What was announced?
Anthropic's News just introduced a new tool called "Claude Tag"! It lets you hand work to Claude by tagging @Claude right inside a Slack channel. Think of it as an evolution of Claude Code that acts like a member of your team.
When you give it a task, Claude breaks the work into stages, runs them using the tools it has access to, and replies back in the thread.
Why it matters
When you're working as a team, there's always that "I'd love to hand this off, but explaining the background every time is exhausting…" moment, right? What makes Claude Tag special is that one Claude interacts with everyone in a given channel. The original puts it this way:
Within a given Slack channel, there's one Claude that interacts with everyone.
So one teammate can pick up the work another teammate started. And the more you use it, the more context it builds about the work, so you don't have to explain everything from scratch each time.
What changes
There are four big wins here.
- Multiplayer: everyone shares the one Claude inside a channel
- Contextual learning: it remembers the background of your work, cutting down on repeat explanations
- Proactive initiative: when enabled, it flags relevant information and follows up on unresolved tasks
- Asynchronous work: hand off a task and focus on other priorities while Claude schedules work over long stretches of time
In short, you can "ask, then leave it to Claude"!
Dive Deep
Let's look a little closer.
- It runs on Opus 4.8.
- You can set separate "Claude identities" per channel, each with its own access permissions and data scope.
- Admins can specify which tools are available per channel and set token spend limits both org-wide and per channel.
- There are full activity logs of who requested what, so administration stays safe and clear.
Setup is four steps: pair your workspace, configure tool access, set spend limits, and test in a private channel.
For now it's a beta for Claude Enterprise and Team customers, and it replaces the existing "Claude in Slack" app, with admins able to opt in within 30 days. Enterprise and Team customers also get introductory launch credits.
Anthropic even shared this about themselves:
Today, 65% of our product team's code is created by our internal version of Claude Tag.
That's already 65% of their product team's code coming from Claude Tag. What a number!
Wrap-up
Let's recap today's key points.
- Claude Tag is a new assistant you can hand work to by tagging @Claude in Slack
- One shared Claude per channel, and it builds context the more you use it
- Runs on Opus 4.8; admins control tools, token limits, and logs in detail
- Currently a beta for Enterprise and Team, replacing "Claude in Slack"
It's a perfect update for anyone who wants to streamline team collaboration or delegate development work. If your team runs on Slack, this one's worth a look!
