Anthropic News
What was announced?
Anthropic's News shared that KiYoung Choi has joined as Representative Director of Korea, ahead of the opening of the Seoul office. Senior leadership will visit Seoul in the coming weeks to officially inaugurate the office and meet with customers.
Choi previously served as General Manager for Korea at Snowflake, and he brings more than thirty years of technology leadership across Korea and the Asia-Pacific region. He has also held country leadership roles at Google Cloud, Adobe, Autodesk, and Microsoft.
Why it matters
Korea is one of the most active markets for Claude.ai. According to Anthropic's Economic Index, Korean usage of Claude runs about 3.5 times higher than you'd expect from population size, with a strong lean toward technical and creative uses. Having a dedicated office and a local leader in a place that enthusiastic is a big deal.
What changes
The Korea team plans to focus on enterprise and startup partnerships, engagement with government and research institutions, and support for the developer community. With the Seoul office, the team gets much closer to the people building there.
Dive Deep
Korean organizations are already building with Claude. Law&Company powers its AI legal assistant with Claude, helping attorneys cut down research and document-prep time. And SK Telecom, Korea's largest telecom, deployed Claude for a custom AI customer service model.
Chris Ciauri, Managing Director of International at Anthropic, put it this way:
Korea is one of the markets where we've seen the most enthusiasm for Claude, and few people understand its technology landscape the way KiYoung does.
