What was announced?

According to Claude's Blog, Anthropic has launched "Claude for Teachers" as a free Enterprise offering for U.S. K-12 (kindergarten through 12th grade) schools and districts. Organizations that sign up by June 30, 2027 get a full year of access at no cost.

The story so far

This announcement didn't come out of nowhere. Back in July, Anthropic already launched a program giving verified individual U.S. K-12 educators free access to premium Claude capabilities. This new announcement takes that a step further: instead of individual teachers signing up on their own, entire schools and districts can now roll it out and manage it as one organization.

What changes

Before, it felt like each teacher had to sign up individually. Now, school and district administrators can apply for and manage access all at once. IT staff no longer need to create accounts one by one — the whole organization can adopt Claude together. Since administrators handle verification and SSO setup centrally, teachers on the ground should be able to get started smoothly.
