Anthropic Opens Its Milan Office, and Claude Is Spreading Across Italy!

What was announced?

Over on Anthropic's News, there's word that Anthropic is opening a new office in Milan! It's the company's sixth office in Europe, joining London, Dublin, Paris, Zurich, and Munich. The Milan team will work with Italian companies and the local developer community on building and scaling with Claude responsibly.

The opening lands right after the release of "Magnifica Humanitas," Pope Leo XIV's first encyclical and the first papal teaching dedicated to AI. At its presentation, co-founder Chris Olah was invited to speak, addressing the ethical questions AI raises.

Why it matters

How AI reshapes work, design, knowledge, and human agency isn't a question the tech sector can or should answer alone — that's Anthropic's view. Getting the transition right takes more voices: industry, civil society, and institutions that have thought about human dignity far longer than AI has existed. Putting a team in Milan is one step toward that.

What changes

From large enterprises to startups, universities, and cultural institutions, more of Italy's builders can adopt Claude safely. The local team is led by Thomas Remy, Head of Southern Europe, and it's already working across sectors:

A few concrete deployments were shared, too.

JAKALA, one of Europe's leading data and AI companies, rolled Claude out to more than 3,000 seats, freeing up roughly 70% of senior team time for higher-judgment client work.

Satispay, a payments super app serving over six million users, deployed Claude across its engineering teams — compressing an 18-month roadmap into seven months and updating its core payment system ten times faster than planned.

At Bending Spoons, one of Italy's largest tech companies, the majority of code changes are now co-authored with Claude Code.

It reaches design, too: during Milan Design Week, the team partnered with Alcova Milano for a hands-on workshop for industrial, furniture, and spatial design pros.
