OpenAI GPT and NVIDIA Nemotron on Bedrock Reach FedRAMP High in GovCloud!

Hi everyone, it's me, Shiichan! Today's news is a little formal, but it's a big compliance milestone for anyone in the public sector.

AWS What's New aws.amazon.com

What was announced?

According to AWS What's New, the OpenAI GPT, OpenAI GPT OSS, and NVIDIA Nemotron models on Amazon Bedrock are now approved at FedRAMP High and Department of Defense DoD CC SRG Impact Level (IL) 4 and 5 in the AWS GovCloud (US) Regions.

The story so far

U.S. federal agencies and public sector organizations follow strict rules that say "you may only use services that meet this bar," based on how sensitive the data is. FedRAMP High and DoD IL-4/5 sit pretty high on that ladder. Without this approval, even the handiest models were off-limits for government workloads.

What changes

Now federal agencies, public sector organizations, and enterprises with the same compliance requirements can use these models on Bedrock in GovCloud (US) with confidence. They can build and scale generative AI apps while knowing they meet the required security and compliance standards.

Dive Deep

These models are powered by Mantle, a next-generation distributed inference engine on Amazon Bedrock. It offers high-performance serverless inference, zero operator access to your data, automated capacity management, and out-of-the-box compatibility with the OpenAI API specifications. Thanks to that OpenAI compatibility, you can move existing code over without a big rewrite.

Wrap-up

  • OpenAI GPT, OpenAI GPT OSS, and NVIDIA Nemotron reach FedRAMP High and DoD IL-4/5 on Bedrock in GovCloud (US)
  • Federal, public sector, and similarly regulated enterprises can now use these models while staying compliant
  • It all runs on Mantle, with zero operator access, automated capacity management, and OpenAI API compatibility

This one is perfect for engineers who want generative AI in government or public sector work, and for anyone wrestling with compliance in a regulated industry!
